FLEMINGTON, N.J. (February 17, 2011) - The camera work of Flemington photographer Audrey Kerchner has helped launch one of the newest iPhone Apps to hit the mobile computing industry. "JustYourTrip New York" was launched on Wednesday and features Kerchner's work over a five-day, dawn till dusk excursion in which she shot more than 200 locations throughout the Big Apple.
"I was in the city before dawn everyday because I wanted to start shooting as soon as the sun came up so I could get the most out of my day," said Kerchner. "I spent a lot of time in the fashion district and saw it from two rather divergent perspectives. I was shooting the high-end fashion shoppers in bustling stores on 14th Street one day. Then the next morning I was on the same street at dawn before any of the stores were open and it was transformed. The street was still alive with activity, but with meat packers and delivery trucks off to all corners of the city. The transformation between the two worlds was just amazing to me."
JustYourTrip New York is a completely offline travel guide that offers over 225 audio walking tours of sites such as the house where "The Cosby Show" was filmed, Carrie Bradshaw's favorite bakery from "Sex and the City," a ghost tour and the traditional restaurant and museum insights. The app is available online for $5.99.
Kerchner, 39, gave up a successful advertising career a little over a year ago to pursue a photography career, trading in the corporate world for a life-long hobby and passion. She was searching for job leads on Craig's List when she came across Antonio Rodriguez, an entrepreneur from Spain who was looking for some photos for an iPhone App he was preparing to launch.
"Audrey was simply fantastic to work with and her shots were outstanding," said Rodriguez, owner of JustYourTrip. "We are planning new versions of JustYourTrip in other major cities and I am hoping our budget allows us to send Audrey to those places because we would like to keep that same elegant look and feel Audrey's photos helped to establish with JustYourTrip New York."
Kerchner said that photographing JustYourTrip's walking tours was especially interesting, recalling a trip to Chinatown's Doyers Street. "Walking up Bloody Angle or Doyers Street really gives you a chill," Kerchner said. "One small car can barely make it down the street, which is curved like an elbow so you can't see around the corner. In the early 1900s Chinese organized crime would fight some of the most horrific battles there. The street has these tunnels underneath where people would suddenly appear and then disappear. It was fascinating in a bone-chilling kind of way."
Prior to launching Audrey Kerchner Photography, she managed digital marketing and design with New York advertising agency Euro RSCG Life, working primarily out of their Princeton office. Prior to its merger with Merck, Kerchner also was with Schering-Plough for 10 years, serving as Director of World Wide Digital Marketing.
Her specialization is architectural photography serving such clients as REMAX, Weidel Realtors, Coldwell Banker and modular builder M Space. "I really enjoy photographing buildings and landscapes, particularly panoramas, but I will shoot people too," she said with tongue in cheek. "In my spare time, I dabble in sports photography and special projects. I frequently will work on virtual tour videos for realtors as well as panoramas, including a project for the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains that appears on their Web site."
A member of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, Kerchner utilizes a wide range of photographic equipment, including her latest investment, a $4,000 tripod that rises 50 feet in the air to provide aerial photographs. A daughter of a Marine who has spent time in California, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, Kerchner and her husband, Jason, moved to Flemington eight years ago with their nine-year-old son.
