CLINTON, N.J. (October 17, 2011) - Unity Bank will present two free seminars, "How to Maximize the Discretionary Effort of Your Employees," a discussion led by Paul Marciano, Ph.D., author of the internationally acclaimed book, "Carrots and Sticks Don't Work: Build a Culture of Employee Engagement with the Principles of RESPECT."
The seminars will be held November 1 at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel, 515 US Highway 1 South, Iselin and November 8 at the Grand Colonial, 86 Route 173 West, Hampton. The first 50 registrants will receive a complimentary copy of Dr. Marciano's book. Both seminars begin with an 8 a.m. breakfast followed by a two-hour presentation and concluding with a book signing and question and answer session. Space is limited and those interested should register by October 25 at www.unitybank.com/seminar.
Topics covered include:
* Hiring and getting employees onboard for success;
* Why trying to motivate employees is a waste of time;
* The critical role of engaging employees;
* How engaging employees leads to high levels of discretionary effort;
* How to create an organizational culture that increases employee engagement;
* The relationship between respect and leadership power;
* The RESPECT Model;
* How to hold employees accountable for meeting performance expectations; and
* Turnkey RESPECT strategies to promote engagement.
With over 20 years of experience in organizational development, Dr. Marciano is a leading authority on employee engagement and retention. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Yale University where he specialized in behavior modification and motivation. Dr. Marciano has served on the faculties of Davidson College and Princeton University where he has taught courses in Leadership, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Survey Development, Research Methods and Statistics.
"The success of any organization depends on effectively hiring and managing employees who deliver high levels of productivity and quality work," said Dr. Marciano. "The smaller the organization, the more important that every employee contributes at the highest possible level. Employees come to us in a state of readiness to engage and contribute, yet, over time the performance of many decline. While small business owners tend to be extremely good at creating a product or service, they often struggle when it comes to effectively managing a staff who often represent their largest overhead expense. Small businesses cannot thrive if the owners cannot effectively manage the productivity of their staff. The seminar will provide simple turnkey strategies that cost nothing and instantly increase the productivity of employees - even if you have only one."
"The seminar is part of our continuing commitment to assist small business owners with the challenges they manage every day," said Unity Bank President James A. Hughes. "We are always looking for unique ways to help business owners and enhancing employee management is a challenge we all face everyday."
