For Unity Bank Team Supporting Relay for Life, Cancer Strikes Close to Home

EASTON, PA. (June 25, 2012) - Unity Bank employees participated in the recent American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Lafayette College, supporting a healthcare issue that strikes close to home for many Unity employees.

"Personally, my aunt Ramona died in 2006 from breast cancer," said Susan Worobec, Assistant Relationship Manager for Unity Bank's Eastern Pennsylvania branches. "It was a very long and painful battle for her that lasted over five years. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2005 and I remember the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I was told. Thankfully, thyroid cancer has an almost 100 percent curable rate and I was told it probably would not kill me. When I think about it I almost feel selfish, but I thank God every day that I don't have to live with that sinking feeling in my stomach every day because I was one of the lucky ones. I walk personally for those who aren't as lucky as I am."

Everyone on Unity's relay team knows someone who has been affected by cancer, either by being diagnosed themselves or having a loved one or friend diagnosed with cancer. Unity Bank's team included: Worobec and her daughter Annissa; Kathleen Walsh, Chad Toth, Dawn Miller and Leena Paletti from Unity's Easton area branches; Jan Lawler of the Phillipsburg branch; Judy Cisco of the Washington, N.J. branch and her daughter Jacqueline Cisco; and Chyllene Adames, Sabrina Lemiska and Jackie Riegel from the bank's Clinton, N.J. headquarters.

Unity Bank has had a team participating in the Relay for Life, a 24-hour fundraising event to support American Cancer Society initiatives, for four years, raising over $10,000 during that time.
