CLINTON, N.J. (June 9, 2014) - Unity Bank Chief Administrative Officer Janice Bolomey of Union Township camped out with her husband, Jeff, and their eight-year-old son, Jimmy, at the recent Annual Box City fundraiser to support the homeless through Family Promise of Hunterdon County. Unity Bank has been the title sponsor of the event for the last four years.
"We hoped Jimmy would have fun while learning about some of the challenges that people in our community face everyday," said Bolomey, who also serves as Unity Executive Vice President/Director of Sales. "He absolutely loved it and wants to camp out next year. But Jimmy told me he wants to come back because there are so many people who need our help so he learned what we hoped he would."
Bolomey noted that her second grader was one of many children among the 255 people who took part, raising more than $29,000, an increase of over $6,000 from the previous year. The fundraiser supports homeless services by asking the citizens of Box City to get people to sponsor their night in a cardboard box with donations.
In addition to being the title sponsor, Unity Bank also sponsored a family who had previously received services through Family Promise so they could take part in the evening without seeking donations. Attendees also heard a few words from past recipients of Family Promise services.
"It was an inspirational night for the whole family and it was important for all of us to see the impact homelessness has on real people," Bolomey said. "It's exciting to see how the event has grown every year. We hope to get more of our bank family involved next year."
Those unable to attend the event, held May 31st at Hunterdon Central High School, can still support the cause by donating at http://familypromisehc.org/events/box-city-2014/.
Family Promise of Hunterdon County, through Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), provides the county's only homeless shelter as well as a homeless prevention program. IHN is a community partnership of paid staff and volunteers from a vast network of congregations throughout Hunterdon County. Services include shelter, food, homeless prevention/rapid re-housing, mental health services and after-shelter support.
