CLINTON, N.J. (July 28, 2014) - Unity Bank Cash Management Specialist Cassie Reid doesn't look like your typical pool shark, but the Pohatcong resident's skills with the cue have earned her a free trip to Las Vegas in August for a national American Poolplayers Association (APA) Championship.
Reid and her 9-ball team based at Clinton Elks Lodge 2434 recently won the Central Jersey APA Championship, earning a trip to the national competition where the eight-member team will compete for the $15,000 grand prize. The APA National Team Championships, held annually at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, is the culmination of weekly APA league play.
A Unity Bank employee for 11 years, the 33-year-old North Hunterdon High School graduate has been an active member of the Clinton Elks for 10 years and currently serves on its Board of Directors. "I really have only been playing pool for about two and a half years," said Reid. "I got started because I wanted to spend more time with my husband, Daniel, who is on the team and this seemed like a good way."
Both Reid and Unity Bank have been long-time supporters of the Clinton Elks through various fundraising initiatives including their annual music festival and golf tournament. The organization also is a beneficiary of the Unity Bank UCare Charitable Giving Program.
"Through fundraising, the Clinton Elks provides assistance to veterans and special needs families," said Reid, who has a nephew with special needs. "Being involved with the Elks has been very rewarding because of all the support we can offer to families through financial assistance as well as our clothing and toy drive. We also hold a pizza party for veterans at the hospital."
"We wish Cassie the best of luck at the upcoming national championship," said Unity Bank President & CEO James A. Hughes. "Unity Bank is very proud of our work with the Elks and very impressed with Cassie's skills in pool."
Non-profit organizations enrolled in the UCare program meeting certain requirements, can receive quarterly donations from Unity Bank based on the balances customers maintain in bank accounts. To learn more about UCare, please visit unitybank.com/UCare.
