CLINTON, N.J. (October 13, 2015) - Unity Bank has provided a $449,000 commercial loan to Platypus Enterprises to support the acquisition of the former Laidlaw Transit property at 1460 Route 22 West, Annandale. Glenn Likus of Tewksbury, owner of the real estate holding company, intends to use the property to maintain equipment for his design build company, G.S. Likus L.L.C., and to develop two Clinton Township affordable housing units in a dilapidated farmhouse on the near seven-acre property.
"Unity Bank helped me close my loan with a tight/looming closing date when my previous bank could not," said Likus, who has been helping property owners design and develop sites for nearly 20 years. "I came to Unity Bank as a new customer and they really bent over backwards to get the loan closed in time."
Likus said the bus company previously had permission to park up to 100 cars and 100 buses on the mixed-commercial-use zoned property, but he plans to maintain all of his equipment and vehicles inside an existing concrete-block 3,000-square-foot storage facility. Clinton Township has approved his request to renovate a run-down 2,800-square-foot farmhouse, which will be replaced by two two-bedroom affordable housing units. He also intends to plant several hundred trees and bushes to create a buffer with neighboring residents.
"As a community bank, we are small enough to help customers deal with these types of challenges when they come up," said Unity Bank President James A. Hughes. "Glenn has been in business since 1996 and has strong roots in the community so we were happy to help. I wish him the best of luck with the new property."
Likus graduated from North Hunterdon Regional High School and the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied architecture. He is active in Tewksbury where he serves on the town historic and environmental commissions. Likus and his wife, Janisse Marie Cailles, V.M.D., an owner of the Oldwick Animal Hospital, have a six-year-old daughter, Margeaux.
