Unity Bank Receives NJBankers Community Service Award

CLINTON, N.J. (June 16, 2016) - Unity Bank received the New Jersey Bankers Association (NJBankers) Community Service Award during the trade association's annual conference.

NJBankers each year sponsors a Community Service Award Program to both celebrate the community work of members and share those efforts with representatives of New Jersey's governing bodies. Unity received special recognition in the category of banks with Deposits Between $500 Million and $999 Million. There are seven categories based on deposit size.

The judges were impressed that Unity employees have a significant say in the direction and focus of the bank's philanthropic initiatives. They also noted that Unity supports the larger community service providers, but also provides significant support to the many smaller, not-for-profit, local community service providers.

"It was an honor to accept the award on behalf of Unity and our employees," said Unity Bank President & CEO James A. Hughes. "As a community bank, supporting non-profit organizations that are important to the communities where we do business is central to our mission. We believe in supporting these vital organizations with our resources and time by volunteering in the community and Unity employees are involved in these efforts every step of the way."

Just a few of the bank's recent community service activities include:

  • Pledging to donate $250,000 to Hunterdon Healthcare to support the healthcare needs of the community and aid future development projects such as the Norman and Denise Guilloud Cardiovascular Center.
  • Donating $100,000 to the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce Foundation to establish the Unity Bank Center for Business & Entrepreneurship at the historic Large House at 119 Main St. in Flemington.
  • Supporting Family Promise of Hunterdon and Warren Counties for many years. Unity Bank served as the founding sponsor of Family Promise of Hunterdon's Annual Box City in Flemington and has been the event sponsor for six years. Family Promise of Hunterdon County and Family Promise of Warren County are the beneficiaries of the bank's annual car show, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary June 26th when the event is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Unity's Clinton headquarters, 64 Old Highway 22.
  • Organizing an annual holiday community service project that supports food banks throughout Unity's service area with $30,000 donated to these organizations by the bank and its employees over the last two years.
